Gary Harlow Gary Robert Harlow passed away November 28, 2019 at the age of 80. Gary was born May 6, 1939 in Culver City, California to Robert J. and Gladys Luce Harlow. He graduated from Milby High School in Houston, Texas, and from the University of Houston. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gladys Harlow and his beloved daughter, Brenda Harlow. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years (married July 16, 1966), Joan Ingram Harlow, his daughter Laura Bush and husband Chris, his son Robert Harlow and wife Melanie, his sister Linda Billerbeck, and his beloved grandsons, Stephen Harlow and Zale Bush. Gary was a Veteran with two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Seabees as a Surveyor/Draftsman, Petty Officer 2 nd Class aboard the USS Maury, a Hydrographic Survey ship. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal and the Battle “E” (3), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (4 bronze stars), and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Device. He was a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV). After his Honorable Discharge, he and his wife worked to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Houston. He worked as a Project Civil Engineer and Field Services Engineer in the Petrochemical Industry and is a member of Texas Society Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers. After his retirement in 2010, he became Caregiver for Joan as she recovered from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Monday, December 2, 2019, at Niday Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private burial is scheduled.
