Obituary for Vanessa Monique Gosnell
Vanessa Monique Gosnell, 63 years of age, passed away March 3, 2020. Vanessa was born February 21, 1957 in High Point, North Carolina. She was the oldest of four children, and was preceded in death by her father, Albert Dean Gosnell; mother, Geraldyne Gosnell; and brother, Anthony Tad Gosnell. Vanessa attended the University of Houston where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She worked for Houston Independent School District for 26 years teaching Art and Reading in three under privileged elementary schools. She loved every one of her students and guided them with firmness, compassion and understanding. She created detailed sets for a multitude of school plays. Over her years of teaching she volunteered to sew hundreds of costumes and outfits for the children for various performances and events. This was done on her own time and required many nights of work into the morning hours. Vanessa was an expert seamstress and sewed her own clothes. In addition, she sewed and mended for family and friends. In addition, she created many art pieces including portraits, sketches, clay and wood sculptures, pottery, embroidered framings, chalk etchings, and other artistic expressions. After retirement, she became an avid Astros fan and did not miss a pitch or bat swing for many seasons. She was extremely passionate for her Astros and received much joy from their winning seasons Vanessa is survived by: brother, Barry Gosnell; sister, Theresa Copeland, and husband, Jesse; uncle, Jerry Snider; nephews, Tad Gosnell Jr. and Chase Copeland; niece, Kelsie Copeland; great nephews, Tad Gosnell III and Conner Copeland; great niece, Savanna Copeland; and other loving family and friends.
