Robert Roy Park (’65)

Robert R. (Bob) Park died on March 17, 2020. He was born in Sunray, Texas October 28, 1929 on a farm owned by his parents Mittie Elizabeth Stevenson and Roy Ward Park. When he was a teenager, his family moved to Dumas, Texas. He met Wanda Lorene Sims through mutual friends and married her on January 6, 1951. He served in the army for 3 years as a guard in a POW camp in Korea. Once he was released, they moved to Borger, Texas and he went to work for Phillips 66. He attended the Junior College there. In 1957 he transferred to a plant in Pasadena, Texas and went to night school at the University of Houston. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. His plant was purchased by Diamond Shamrock and he continued to work for them until retirement in 1984. They began their dream house in Riverside and moved there in 1986. Bob and Lorene were very active in the community. They actively worked with the Thomas Lake Road Community Association which supports the Volunteer Fire Department. Lorene passed away in the Spring of 2013 and he continued to live on his own. However, health issues and physical challenges required him to move into Avalon Place Nursing home in 2018. He is survived by a daughter Melita Park Hoffmann, Granddaughter Elizabeth Del Bosque and her husband Anthony Del Bosque, Grandson Timothy Hoffman and his wife Chelsie Hoffmann and two great-grandsons Noah Del Bosque and Matthew Hoffmann.
