Cathy was born on April 5, 1949 in Houston, Texas to Doyle Price Horsley and Dona Love Horsley. Living with her older sister, Cynthia Jean Wohlman, she and her family lived in various cities of Texas and briefly in Japan as their home life was guided by where her father was stationed serving in military duty.
Cathy graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Houston in 1971. She taught first grade and kindergarten in Grand Prairie ISD, Pasadena ISD, and Houston ISD. On June 23, 1973 she married Kipling Bartran. She worked at various part time jobs to supplement the family. Together they had one daughter and a granddaughter.
Cathy lived to find humor and beauty in life and share it with others. She was an educator, a loving housewife, a caring mother and grandmother, and an avid reader. She appreciated a wide variety of music, film, and stories that gave her a compassionate and inspired view of all walks of life. She loved to chat and share jokes and stories and always brought smiles, laughter, and comfort to her conversations. She loved children and animals and wanted to spread warmth and affection to the unprotected.
She is survived by her husband, Kipling Bartran; daughter, Laura Bartran: granddaughter, Kaitlin Hellings; mother, Dona Horsley; niece, Judy Wohlman; and nephew, Trevor Davis.
