Robert E. “Curley” Janak
October 24, 1941 April 11, 2020
Robert E. “Curley” Janak, 78, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2020. He was born on October 24, 1941, to Ernest Leon and Annie Mae Holub Janak, in Hallettsville, Texas. He married Sally Welhoelter on March 26, 1980, in Houston, Texas and remained by her side until his final breath. Bob attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated Valedictorian in 1960. He was voted Homecoming King, Most Intellectual, Best All Around as well as various other awards by his 1960 graduating class. He was Captain of the Football Team and All League Quarterback in 1960 when the Sacred Heart Indians won the District State Championship. Bob went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy at the University of Houston. He interned at Jay’s Prescription Shop in Bellaire, Texas, worked there upon graduation from U of H and eventually purchased the pharmacy from Jay Jones. Bob was dedicated to the well-being of his customers; often running up to the pharmacy on a Sunday to fill and deliver a prescription when someone was in need. Jay’s remained a trusted name in Bellaire for many years until he sold it in 1992 to move back to Hallettsville. Bob couldn’t stay idle long and the first time a pharmacy position became available at the Walmart in Hallettsville he jumped at the opportunity. He proudly filled prescriptions for his long-time friends and family at the local Walmart until his official retirement in 2012. Bob was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to many; he was a treasured Paw-Paw to his 17 grandchildren. He will be missed every day by many. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Bob is survived by his wife Sally Welhoelter Janak; his four daughters with Nora Woods Houston; Holli Nucci & husband Steve, Rene Anderson & husband Phillip, Noel Vogt & husband Heath and Joy Schindler & husband Mark; his two siblings; Charles Janak & wife Sandra and B.J. Janak; his three step-children; Ken Johnson & wife Paula, Kevin Johnson and Steve Johnson & wife Amber; nine grandchildren; Jake Nucci, Olivia Nucci, Isabella Nucci, Matthew Anderson, Annie Anderson, Maggie Mae Vogt, Gracie Vogt, Justin Schindler and Jackson Schindler; and eight step-grandchildren; Kayla Harmon, Hope Johnson, Megan Stephens, Garrett Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Travis Johnson, Landyn Johnson and Luke Johnson. Due to the Coronavirus epidemic, a Celebration of Curley’s Life will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic School in memory of Robert E. “Curley” Janak.
