Mark A. Guetzow (J.D. ’07)

Mark Alan Guetzow, 38, of Houston, Texas, passed away April 16th, 2020. He was born in Houston on October 20, 1981 to Karl Alan Guetzow and Janice Anita Guetzow. During Mark’s youth he served as an ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association at functions and blazed a trail for students with service animals in public schools. In middle school, he had the pleasure and honor to introduce his service dog, Tory, to President George H. W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush during their visit to T.H. Roger’s middle school. Mark and Tory graduated Valedictorian from Jones High School, Houston, Texas in 2000. Mark was conferred two baccalaureate degrees as a 2004 graduate of Rice University in Political Science and Philosophy. He earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law School in 2007 and passed his bar exam on his first attempt. Mark practiced law and continuously made efforts to support his family, friends, and colleagues in all that he did. He found joy in his days and was able to courageously fight a long battle with Muscular Dystrophy through the support of close family, friends, and caregivers. Mark will join departed family and his two service dogs, Tory and Nala, with the angels in the Lord’s Kingdom. He is survived by his parents Karl and Janice Guetzow, his sister Erin Chavez and her husband Juan Paulo, his nieces Megan Corinne and Elena Marie, and his service dog Boudro.
