Helen Walker Helen Walker was born and raised in Nacogdoches, TX. She graduated from Nacogdoches High school in 1948. She attended SFA University and met her husband, Derwin there at the Wesley Foundation. After marrying and starting their family, Helen took a break from college. In 1969 she returned to SFA and completed her bachelor’s degree in Education in 1972. After moving to Houston she studied at the University of Houston receiving her Master’s of Education degree with a specialty in reading. She taught 15 years in the Houston Independent School District teaching elementary school. Upon Derwin’s retirement from the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Helen also retired. They moved back to Nacogdoches and started their second career raising Gelbvieh cattle. Helen was a faithful member of Perritte Memorial United Methodist church. At age 9 she dedicated her life to Christ and joined Perritte Memorial. Helen worked with Perritte’s Quilting Circle, Pie Crust Ladies, Perritte’s Annual Bazaar, Fun and Fellowship and various other church projects.
