Brent Justin Bushell (’06)

Brent Bushell, 38, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully on August 10, 2020. He was born in Houston on October 3, 1981 and attended Episcopal High School in Bellaire. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from the University of Houston and two Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Information Systems from Santa Clara University. Brent worked for San Jose Clinic, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and BHP Billiton, most recently in the field of cybersecurity. He had a huge heart, incredible brain, and quick wit. Anyone who knew Brent loved his sense of humor. He was an avid Chelsea FC soccer fan and enjoyed cheering on his Houston soccer and football teams. He met his wife Sara in 1997 while still in high school. They began dating in 2002 and married at Mission Santa Clara in 2008. They were married for almost 12 years and lived with two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Oscar and Kate. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel Timothy and Audrey Lee Horn, and Robert Mark and Jules Bonnivet (Bonnie) Bushell as well as his aunt, Lee Ann Horn. He is survived by his wife, Sara; his mother and step-father Pam and Jeff Ryall; his father and step-mother Mark and Rosana Bushell; his step-sister Karina Tyler; his uncle and aunt Dennis and Kim Stanek; his two cousins, Jordyn and Sydney Stanek; and his in-laws Bill and Pat Mitchell. A private ceremony for the family will be held Saturday, August 22nd, at Grace Episcopal Church (Zoom link available upon request). All guests are welcome to gather in the Grace parking lot at 10:15am for “scarves up,” a soccer tradition. Please bring the scarf of your favorite sports team or another scarf of your choice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA, MD Anderson Cancer Center in honor of the excellent care Brent received there, or a charity that is special to you. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to MD Anderson, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Be The Match, and Baylor College of Medicine for their support during Brent’s care.
