Mark Robert Jehlen (’81)

Mark was born on January 19, 1952 in Passaic, New Jersey to Robert and Mary (Gallik) Jehlen. He was the eldest of 6 brothers, Keith, Scott, Cris, Robert, and David. He spent his early years in New Jersey before his family moved to Florida. Years later, he moved to Texas to start a new chapter of his life. He received his Associate of Arts degree from Miami Dade College in May 1973 and secondary Bachelor of Science degree from the Conrad Hilton School of Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Houston in May 1981. He was married to Dee (Newkirk) Jehlen for 25 years and they raised three beautiful daughters together, Ciara, Dana, and Ashton. Mark was an avid writer and artist. He enjoyed listening to music, watching football, and cooking. He loved taking camping trips across the United States with family and friends. Those closest to Mark will remember him best with a camera in hand, snapping photographs of life’s special and unique moments. He was known for his quick wit, audacious personality, and the everlasting love he had for his children and grandchildren. Mark is survived by his three daughters, Ciara, Dana, and Ashton and three granddaughters, Emerson, Ava, and Reese. He was proceeded in death by his father, Robert, mother, Mary, and brother, Cris. A closed family viewing will be held on Monday, May 11, 2020 at the Katy Funeral Home in Katy, Texas at 4 o’clock p.m. followed by a celebration of life dinner for extended family and friends.
