John Gerard Breiner (Jerry) of Bastrop, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2020 at the age of 81. John was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated with honors from Saint Augustine Diocesan High School in 1957. After graduation, John moved to Houston, Texas to begin his college studies. He attended the University of Houston and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Physics, as well as a Master of Science degree in Physics. John’s IT career began when he accepted a position at IBM as a Systems Engineer. He also held positions at RCA, Texaco, Memorex, Control Data, Cray Research and Hitachi Data Systems. He retired from Hitachi Data Systems as a Product Manager. John enjoyed working in his yard, bird watching and building desktop computers. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Maretta Breiner of Houston, Texas; daughter Deb Stanton, husband Greg and 2 grandsons of Houston, Texas; son Keith Breiner and 2 grandsons of Beaumont, Texas; daughter Lisa Ezzell, husband Patrick, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren of Houston, Texas; son John Gerard Breiner, Jr. of Austin, Texas; stepson Jerry Pearce, wife Veronica, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren of Houston, Texas. We want to extend a special thank you to all the wonderful staff at Cherry Ridge Skilled Nursing Facility in Bastrop, Louisiana. They treated John like a member of their family and consistently provided quality and vigilant care during his time with them. A celebration of life for Mr. Breiner will be held at a later date this fall under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
