Margaret Maria Atlinger (’87)

Margaret Maria McAuliffe Altinger was called to Eternal Life on September 3, 2020, after a heroic battle with cancer. Margaret was born the seventh of nine children to Robert James (Bob) and Regina Catherine (Jean) McAuliffe on December 14, 1961. After graduation from the University of Houston, she began what was to become a lifelong career as an educator. Margaret will be lovingly remembered for her distinctive laugh, passion for teaching and gardening, unwavering faith, and most especially her absolute love for her family. Margaret is mourned by her three children, seven siblings, and their families, Kathleen Marie McAuliffe, Robert James McAuliffe, Jr. and wife Ann Lucille Matush McAuliffe, Marianne Therese McAuliffe Mechura and her husband Randal Wayne Mechura, Denis Patrick McAuliffe and wife Laura Jean Horstman McAuliffe, John Thomas McAuliffe, Therese Hilda Marie McAuliffe, Colleen Grace Marian McAuliffe Knight and her husband Edwin Glynn Knight. Margaret is also survived by twenty-eight nieces and nephews. One sibling, Michael Joseph McAuliffe, predeceased Margaret. The Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 10, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston. The Rosary begins at 10:30 A.M. Mass will follow at 11:00 A.M. Inurnment immediately follows at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society. The family would also be grateful for Masses, Rosaries, and other prayers offered in thanksgiving for the gift of Margaret’s life and for the repose of her soul.
