Mekeva G. McNeil (’00)

Mekeva Genea McNeil (“Keva”) was born on October 22, 1978 to Rosalind McNeil Williams in Houston, Texas. She was baptized at an early age at Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church in Houston, Texas where she was a very active and faithful member in the Church’s musical and theatrical ministries. She graduated from the High School of Performing and Visual Arts, then received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Houston Main Campus. She attended the Actors Studio Drama School, Pace University Pace University in New York and received a Master of Fine Arts (in Directing). Mekeva received her wings on Sunday, June 13, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother and father, Rosalind and Lawrence Williams, Sr., six siblings, Crystal C. Simon (Phillip), Justin Williams (Whitley), Ariel Williams, Keylon Williams (Miche’le), Artissa Wiggins and Trevis Thurmond. A host of nieces and nephews, one God Daughter, Serenity Crystal Simon. God Brothers, Eric and Derek Pierre; Godmother, Sarah Arceneaux, grandfather, Gilbert McNeil, Sr.; and a host of other relatives. She is predeceased by her father, Eddie Long, grandmothers, Bettie J. McNeil and Johnnie Mae Williams; and her paternal grandfather, Lawrence D. Williams, Sr. Mekeva was a beautiful person with a very loving spirit, wonderful personality and full of life, like her grandmother, Bettie. She touched many lives everywhere she went. She lit up every room she entered. She was very devoted to her family. We will miss her dearly! She was God’s Angel.
