Gene Sterling Woods

On Sunday April 3, 2022, Gene Sterling Woods at the age of 91 entered into eternal life peacefully at home. Gene was born at home on June 22, 1930 in Jasper, Texas to the late Maud and Columbus Woods. During his birth his mother could hear Ross S. Sterling; then future governor of Texas, making a speech on the courthouse steps and she declared Gene’s middle name would be Sterling. He attended school in Jasper, played football, baseball & basketball in high school. He was a member of the ROTC at Carlton Jr. College and received his pharmacy degree from the University of Houston. Shortly after graduation Gene was drafted into the US Army and was stationed at For McPherson, GA until his father passed away and he returned home to run the family’s pharmacy. Gene moved to Pasadena, Texas in 1956 and held employment with Taylor Drugs and Randalls Pharmacy until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with family, eating Heath Bar Blizzards, watching football and baseball, and working with his plants in the garden. Gene met Nita Jo Wallace Woods in 1977 and they were united in marriage on March 25, 1977. Their union created a blended family of six children; two daughters: Diana Woods and Dezare Peal (Rusty); four sons: Russell Woods (Nancy), Gary Woods (Loretta), Gary Bagley (Paul Pfrang), and Kenneth Bagley (Georgia). The family grew to include his nine grandchildren, Stephanie Woods Cheramie (Brent), Christina Woods Bailey (Luke), Crystal Peal Ware (Ryan), Lila Peal Davis (Matt), Benjamin Bagley (Sabrina), Victoria Bagley Arreola (Martin Jr.), Kenneth S Bagley, Shane Bagley, and Michael Bagley as well as 13 great-grandchildren, William, Wesley, Wyatt, Adalynn, Martin III, Travis, Mililani, Tyson, Andrew, Dylan, Carleigh, Ruston and the last but not the least Clare. Gene loved his family and has left a legacy of love for generations to come. Gene was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of the First United Methodist of Pasadena/Revive Church where he served as an usher for many years and was a member of the One-Way Sunday school class. In addition to his parents, Columbus and Maud Woods, Gene was preceded in death by his brother Charles Woods. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 with the Service at 11 a.m. at Revive Church formally Frist United Methodist Church of Pasadena, located at 1062 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas, 77504. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Revive Church, a United Methodist Ministry, 1062 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas, 77504.
