Patrick Edward Moran
December 13, 1926 — March 24, 2025
Patrick Edward Moran, 98, of Houston, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, in Houston. He was born December 13, 1926 in Anderson, Grimes County, Texas, the youngest son of Felix F. and Grace D. (Fabian) Moran. His father died suddenly of a stroke in the summer of 1942, leaving him and his mother in dire financial circumstances. They remained in Anderson one more year, during which time Patrick finished his junior year in high school. However, in the summer of 1943, after the death of his maternal grandmother in Houston, Patrick and his mother moved to Houston to live with his paternal grandfather, William L. Fabian.
After moving to Houston, Patrick attended Stephen F. Austin High School, while working at night, until graduation in the summer of 1944. He then volunteered for service in the Army Air Corps (the Air Force had not yet become a separate service). He expected to be called into active duty shortly after his eighteenth birthday in December, but the call did not come until June 1, 1945, just as World War II was ending in Europe. He was trained as a cryptographer and was sent to Europe in December 1945. He served briefly in Frankfurt, then Paris for about six weeks before being sent to Naples, Italy, where he served for about ten months. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was released from service on November 21, 1946. Patrick later volunteered for the reserves during the Korean War but was never recalled to active duty.
After his military service, Patrick had intended to work full time while attending college at night. At his grandfather’s insistence, he delayed seeking employment and attended college full time, continuing to live with his mother and grandfather. He attended the University of Houston and graduated in the spring of 1949, after only two and one-half years, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with a major in accounting.
After his graduation Patrick found employment and was able to return his grandfather’s kindness by supporting him and his mother for the rest of their lives. Patrick’s business career was spent as the comptroller of three different firms, and he retired in January 1983 at age 56. Since his retirement he continued to live in Houston, Texas.
No public service will be held at this time. Cremation services under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
