My name is Priscilla Salisbury, and I am a proud alumna of the University of Houston, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in vocal performance at the Moores School of Music. My years at UH provided the foundation for my career, and I carry the lessons I learned there into every stage I step onto.
I am excited to share some recent news: I was honored at the inaugural Catholic Music Awards in Rome, Vatican City, where I received the International Award for Best Female Singer 2025. Standing on an international stage as both a proud UH alumna and a Mexican soprano was profoundly humbling and I credit the education and support I received at the University of Houston as a vital part of this achievement.
This recognition is not only a personal milestone, but also a reflection of UH’s commitment to excellence in the arts. Below is my press release.
Priscilla Salisbury excelled at Rome’s recent Catholic Music Awards among 1,452
competitors from nearly 30 countries.
The Mexico-born artist’s honor marked the end of an extensive review process conducted
by an international jury of 68 professionals engaged in music and pastoral ministry.
“I feel humbled and grateful to be recognized during this historic first year of the
awards,” Salisbury said. “I have dedicated the award to my parents, who have supported
my passion for music, and to everyone who finds strength and inspiration in sacred song.
“My greatest hope is that music becomes a source of healing and light for those who need
it most.”
The University of Houston, The University of Texas, and St. Thomas University graduate
received her award on July 27 at the Auditorium Conciliazione in Vatican City.
Broadcasted worldwide, her prize-winning song was “Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter of
Zion” from Handel’s Messiah.
The Rome achievement sustained her tradition of sparkling performance before many
audiences. In recent years, she has sung with Houston Grand Opera, Seattle Opera and
Winter Opera St. Louis. After a summer of intense language study in Italy, she is now
fluent in Italian alongside her native Spanish and English.
In addition to Salisbury’s award, the Rome ceremony included lifetime achievement
tributes to Andrea Bocelli and Monsignor Marco Frisina, Musical Director of the Pia
Lateranense Chapel Choir.
The Catholic Music Awards event was created to highlight and elevate sacred music in
Spanish,English, Italian, and Portuguese. Submissions were evaluated on artistic
excellence, technical achievement and spiritual impact.
