Dr. Kay Towns, University of Houston alumna, has recently had two books published, “GRACE: A Model for Grieving” handbook and workbook (Towns, 2024) with a third book due out next year. These books are on the topic of mental health and, specifically, they offer a novel grief model, the GRACE Grief Model, for dealing with loss. Dr. Towns is both a both an ordained United Methodist minister and Licensed Professional Counselor who has served in the hospital setting, churches, and professional counseling settings. In those roles, she has spent a great amount of time addressing loss and grief within a pluralistic society.
Dr. Towns’ grief model and grief books are unique in that they offer support that is evidence-based, inclusive, and incorporates a person’s own spirituality. The GRACE Grief Model is also available through Hatherleigh Publishing as a continuing education (CE) credit for those in the mental health and medical fields.
Following graduation at UH (Main Campus), Dr. Towns earned a master’s degree in theological studies from Southern Methodist Univ. (Dallas), master’s degree in professional counseling from Houston Graduate school of Theology (Houston), and a doctorate degree in professional counseling from Mississippi College (Mississippi).
