Obituary
Del Hendricks, age 91, passed peacefully on July 2, 2025. Del was born February 12, 1934 to Sterling and Marie Bowles. Raised in Houston, she attended Reagan High School and the University of Houston where she met the love of her life, Theodore “Ted” Robert Hendricks. Married in 1953 Del and Ted had a cherished 56 year marriage until his passing in 2009.
Del was an incredible mother to Lisa and Victor as the family lived in Southwest Houston and attended the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. She was very active at Epiphany where she found a lifelong calling in the Altar Guild. The family moved to Point Venture on Lake Travis the summer of 1972 where she and Ted had a beautiful condo for over 50 years hosting many gatherings of family and friends for holidays, reunions and birthdays. Ted and Del lived and worked in Austin for many years where they had many friends and hosted even more fun gatherings.
Finding herself an empty nester, Del worked for the Texas Dept of Community Affairs for over 20 years in the Drug & Alcohol Abuse division for grants. She truly loved working there and her constant smile, sense of humor, and loving support made her the “Work Mom” to her TDCA family. She loved attending the reunion last year where they made a big fuss over her.
Her most favorite role was when she became “Magaw” to two adorable grandchildren who she loved so deeply and was so grateful to be such a large part of their lives. And, no surprise, she was also a beloved mother-in-law.
Del, like her mother, was an incredible cook and welcoming hostess. Known for fabulous dinner parties and holiday meals unless it was a birthday cake (and yes, we have photographic evidence).
In retirement at Point Venture, Del and Ted were active at St. Peter’s Episcopal in Lago Vista and were founding members of Trinity Anglican in Jonestown. She loved her Trinity family and especially Pastor Dale and Jacque Chrisman. Del will be interred in the beautiful Trinity Memorial Garden wall next to Ted at a later date.
Del was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters Beverly Anderson, Lola Grenwelge and Lucy Somers. She is survived by: daughter Lisa Ottenbacher (Ron) and son Victor Hendricks (Jan). Grandchildren Keller Hendricks (Sarah) and Victoria Van Winkle (Lynn). Great grandchildren Gavin Hendricks, Teddy Van Winkle and Roger Van Winkle. Step grandchildren Ellie Wheeler, Wendy Ottenbacher Gipe, Mandy Spiczka and Peter Ottenbacher. Step great grandchildren Vincent Ottenbacher, Zoe Spiczka, Ryan Gipe and Emily Ottenbacher.
Funeral service and reception will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19th at Trinity Anglican Church, 18900 RM 1431, Jonestown, TX 78645.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Box 4616, Lago Vista, TX 78645.
