I started at UH in 1992 and I was a homeless disabled veteran with three children. The Star of Hope Transitional Living Center was located close to campus. I felt that I should attend UH after looking at TSU.
I struggled because of being a single parent of three. I also had to be a role model for my children. No matter what I had to work and go to school. My spirituality is what made a difference. I need God to see me through. I was able to study hard and persevere.
In 2008 I enrolled in Liberty University Online. I completed the Masters for Theological Studies in 2009. I then went on to complete my Masters of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling from 2010-2014.
There was one more degree that I really had said no to. I continued to be reminded that I had to do it. I decided to enroll in Newburgh Theological Seminary in 2017. I worked on the Doctor of Ministry for a couple of years. I was having trouble with my hips and stopped. It bothered me that I had quit and I re-enrolled to complete my degree. I completed my degree in December of 2020 but I had to wait until May of 2021. I am grateful that God would not let me end short of my degree.
I encourage every young person to not give up and keep focused on your goal. Do it because you want it even if you have some struggles.
